Claire Shulman Scholarship
at Queens College
In partnership with Queens College, the Queens Chamber of Commerce Foundation proudly supports the Claire Shulman Scholarship, honoring the legacy of former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman. This scholarship provides cost-of-education awards and internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in Queens College’s Urban Studies Department, helping students pursue careers focused on the complex challenges facing urban communities.
Claire Shulman was a trailblazing public servant whose leadership shaped Queens for more than a decade and a half. As the first woman to serve as Borough President, she championed neighborhood planning, expanded public school capacity, and strengthened healthcare, cultural, and educational institutions across the borough. The scholarship reflects her lifelong commitment to public service, equity, and community-driven progress by investing in students who will carry that work forward through careers in housing, transportation, climate resilience, and community development.
Foundation Scholarship Program Across Queens Colleges
The Queens Chamber of Commerce Foundation supports broader scholarship programs that serve students across all seven colleges in the borough. These scholarships are designed for both part-time and full-time students, with a particular focus on those who are working while pursuing their degrees and balancing financial responsibilities.
By partnering directly with Queens-based colleges and universities, the Foundation helps reduce financial barriers to higher education for students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation college students and those from lower-income households. Together with LaGuardia Community College, Plaza College, Queens College, Queensborough Community College, St. John’s University, Vaughn College, and York College, the Foundation is investing in the next generation of talent that will strengthen Queens’ workforce, civic life, and economic future.
